Why San Miguel
Something wakes up
in people here
David sits down at our Shabbat table and hasn't been to synagogue in thirty years — and doesn't want to leave. Rachel from Chicago walks in on a Friday afternoon, not sure why. Michael and Sarah arrive the night before Rosh Hashana and find a seat waiting for them.
Something about this city slows people down. And when people slow down, there's suddenly room — for questions they haven't asked in years, for something they thought they'd lost, for the part of themselves that's been waiting quietly. We've watched people reconnect with their Yiddishkeit here in ways they never anticipated. Some for the very first time in their lives. Not because of San Miguel — but because when a Jew is ready to come home, all it takes is an open door. We're just here to keep it open.
"The last thing I expected to find in San Miguel — and exactly what I needed."— Michael, Los Angeles
